Coastal architectural new build under construction at Opito Bay. Designed for the site's coastal exposure and views.

Completed throughout 2024–2025, this stunning 250m² holiday home in Opito Bay, Coromandel, was a true design and build collaboration for the Gardo Group team. Situated in a remote coastal location overlooking the bay and out toward the Mercury Islands, the project required careful planning, strong communication, and complete trust from our Tauranga-based clients.
To ensure the project ran smoothly, our team relocated to site and lived in the existing farmhouse throughout construction. Despite the challenges of the remote location, the home was successfully delivered on time and within budget.
Thoughtfully designed to maximise the spectacular coastal outlook, the home features full height raking windows to the gable ends and an expansive stacker slider opening from the central living space, creating a seamless connection between the interior and the surrounding landscape.
The layout comprises two distinct wings connected by a large central lounge. One wing houses the kitchen, dining area, laundry, and guest suite with ensuite, while the second wing contains the master suite with walk-in wardrobe and ensuite, alongside two additional bedrooms and the main bathroom.
Material selection played an important role in both the aesthetic and practicality of the home. The exterior combines low-maintenance Colorsteel cladding with warm accents of Western Red Cedar, while the interior features durable carpet and tiled finishes designed for easy maintenance, ideal for relaxed holiday living.
We are incredibly proud of the outcome of this project and look forward to sharing the completed photography of this remarkable coastal home in the coming months.
